Sovereign Ruler of the land of EquestriaDescriptionCelestia is the graceful wise ruler of all of Equestria, and beloved by her people. She has seen the banishing of Discord twice, the imprisonment (by her) and redemption of her sister, and has been imprisoned herself twice that we have seen. Through it all she has a playful, somewhat irrelevant attitude, but is serious in the defense of her subjects. Being connected to the sun she is in charge of raising it every day. Coloration
Personal OpinionCelestia is a fantastic character, and an very interesting interpretation of a ruler. She seems to be hugely powerful, but this may be debatable given her loss to Chrysalis. Either way she is up in my top two favorite alicorns. Redeemed DiarchDescriptionBanished to the moon when she let jealousy for her subjects love for her sister corrupt her becoming Nightmare Moon, she returns in the first arc of season 1 and is saved by the main characters. She appears again in her own episode, Luna Eclipsed, when she visits Ponyville for Nightmare Night (their version of Halloween). She makes 2 more appearances, once with a passing line, and the second time as an adviser for the young filly Scootaloo. Personality wise she is more regal then her sister, but after being banished for 1000 years she is very out of touch and old fashioned but still tries to have a sense of humor. She is responsible for raising the moon, a job her sister covered while she was banished to the moon. Coloration
Personal OpinionAnother great character. The stain her dark history left on both her and the conciousness of the rest of the ponies constantly complicates their interactions. The only problem is since she has so little screen time it's hard to appreciate her as a character. The second of my 2 favorite alicorns. Crystal MaidenDescriptionAppearing first in the finale for season 2, we find out that Cadence was Twilight Sparkles foalsitter, she is replaced by a changeling imposter who tries to conquer Equestria and is defeated by the main six, allowing Cadence to marry her Fiance Shining Armor, Twilight Sparkle's brother. She appears again in the first arc of Season 3 where she saves the Crystal empire and becomes it's leader. Coloration
Personal OpinionI really don't like Cadance. She, and Shining Armor, come out of nowhere and saved the country when neither the royal pony sisters (Celestia and Luna) and the main 6 were unable to. This smacks, to me, of bad writing. Even worse is the fact that she is one of a very small (at the time 3) and served as the foal sitter for the, at the time, nobody foal Twilight Sparkle. When she and Shining Armor then saved the crystal empire, and become it's monarchs, we see her cutie mark become a crystal version of her old mark. There is also talk of the crystal princess from the Crystal Empire ponies. Does this mean that Cadance is the long lost bloodline, or embodyment of their princess? The Crystal Empire had been sealed away for almost 1000 years. She introduces world and history problems, has no complicating personality quirks (she's universally kind and shown getting along with everyone without exception), and was originally envisioned to be a unicorn but was changed by the higher ups to an alicorn so that there would be a pink pony princess. The Element of MagicDescriptionOne of the main 6 characters of the series, Twilight Sparkle is introduced as an almost main character. She is the personal student of Princess Celestia and the wielder of the Element of Magic, using it along with the rest of the main characters to redeem Luna in the first arc. She was most likely the strongest unicorn in the land, possibly throughout history, until she became an alicorn in the last episode of the third season. Coloration
Personal OpinionTwilight was my favorite character for most of the series, but transforming her into an alicorn causes all sorts of problems. Were the other alicorns originally regular ponies, and became alicorns through the Elements of Harmony? (This could be possible for Celesita and Luna, but that would mean Cadence had to have become one before Celestia wielded them 1000 years ago, so she was babysitting a nobody pony while being 1k+ years old?) While Lauren Faust (the original writer/creator of this series of ponies) had always planned for her to take Celestia's job, it was planned to be in the final episode of the series, and she was never planned to be transformed into an alicorn. After she left the series the final episode of season 3 was planned to be the last one one (the 65th episode, the minimum required for syndication), but due to the unexpected success of the series it has been renewed for a 4th season, so does Twilight continue with her friends in Ponyville or does she leave to complete her new position in Canterlot? Verdict: I don't like the transformation. |
